While We Roost
As the EPA is slowly dismantled and a presidential gag prevents national environmental agencies and parks to publicize scientific evidence of global warming, it is important to maintain focus on the scientifically proven effects on various species. Currently I am continuing a series highlighting White Nose Syndrome in bats using intaglio and mixed media and is a hybrid of printmaking and media application. I’m using intaglio to create multiples to build a series more readily. The individual prints are manipulated with many media imagining fantastical and ridiculous possibilities that while detailed and thought out are impossible. The resulting images reference an understanding of ideas within current scientific research like viral phage therapy and stem cell research. They are visualizations of how monumental and even absurd the current state of our environmental protection and any number of farcical solutions that are peddled daily. The works play on the people, organizations, statements, and current events that affect animal species and inflates our impact on global warming.
